What is Astrology?

Astrology is the ancient science which delineates  the influence of the stars upon Nature and mankind. A horoscope is a map or diagram of the heavens cast for a particular moment of time, drawn on paper, and read according to well-established rules. The horoscope is calculated by a mathematical process, free from the elements of chance or divination. Predictions are deduced from the horoscope in a demonstrable and strict mathematical way, "according to a certain chain of causes which for ages past have been found uniformly to produce a correspondent train of effects. The science of the stars then has not been established merely upon dogma and belief, but derives its authority from thousands of years of observation "by philosophers of the highest refinement." Astrology was practiced by the earliest civilized peoples on the earth, and in every period of philosophic and spiritual enlightenment was accorded a place of honor by those of high birth and great learning.
